Abnormal Wear and Solutions of Semi Trailer Tire

Tire wear is mainly caused by the friction between the tire and the ground. With the changing driving conditions of semi trailer, such as starting, turning, braking, etc., fast turning, sudden starting and hard breaking will lead to rapid tire wear. In addition, tire wear is also related to the speed of trailer. But the tire wear caused by the above conditions is basically uniform and normal. Today, let's talk about the abnormal wear and prevention of semi trailer tires!

Irregular early tire wear is called abnormal tire wear, which is mainly manifested in the following situations:

1. Plane Wear of TireIt mainly refers to the first-axle, second-axle or third-axle tires of semi trailer wear faster than the other first-axle and second-axle tires in the same trailer. The surface wear of the tire is relatively average, which is usually called plane wear.

Reason analysis 1: It is caused by the large error in the maximum height between the main engine and the semi trailer. High front and low back will reduce the contact area between the front axle and the ground, reducing the adhesion between the semi trailer and the ground. In normal operation, the front axle is locked first, which increases the friction times between the semi trailer tires and the ground, resulting in early wear.

Types:

A. Plane wear is shown in the first axle of the three-axle semi trailer;

B. Plane wear is shown in the first and second axle of the three-axle semi trailer;

C. Plane wear is shown in the third axle of the three-axle semi trailer.

Solutions: First, check the braking condition of the semi trailer when it is not loaded. If it is high in front and low in back, the first axle will be locked first and the second axle will follow. Then check  the error in the maximum height between the main engine and the semi trailer. If the error is too large, the first axle and second axle will be locked. In this case, if the error exceeds 120mm, the leaf spring iron pads need to be installed on the first axle and second axle or just lower the saddle height. If there is plane wear on the first axle, install the leaf spring iron pads on it properly, so does the third axle.

Reason analysis 2: It is caused by the uneven force on the axle when the semi trailer is under heavy load. When the semi trailer runs under heavy load, excessive stress on any axle will raise the tire temperature, causing early wear.

Solutions: Firstly, check the tire stress condition of semi trailer under heavy load. Then install the leaf spring iron pads with different thickness according to the different stress degree of tire.
